Matthias Spehr was born in 1960 in Rostock, where he lives until this day. Graduated from German and English studies. In 1984-89 made Super 8 films on sabotage activities, as well as various music projects and videos. In 1990 he started MonteVideo – the first group of young video artists in Germany. He is the initiator of many film festivals (including FilmFest 1992, the Golden Toaster Student Film Festival 1997, and FiSH 2004) and a lecturer on film. He conducts video workshops, and is a jury member at various workshops and festivals.
