Blok tematyczny: The Boundaries of Cinema '21

The first public higher artistic education institution in Poland teaching in the fields of both visual arts and music. The Academy of Art in Szczecin is a young and modern school. Its biggest assets are the staff and technical equipment. The lecturers are active artists and theoreticians who win prizes, play concerts and exhibit their works all around the world. They are also representatives of the creative industry. The Academy’s students can use studios with state-of-the-art equipment, labs, ateliers and lecture rooms. The Academy of Art is also a dynamic institution of culture. Every year it organises a couple hundred cultural events, such as exhibitions, festivals and concerts.

  • Antidotum10'

    The film “Antidotum” uses the convention of a fairy tale both in the dramatic and visual layer. It was inspired by Clarissa Pinkoli Estés’ book “Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype” and by the film author’s personal experiences. The style of the video results from the need to infantilise difficult experiences, which is often the only way in which they can be told. Karolina Brzozowska is also the author of the script, editing, set design and post-production.

    A story about searching for intimacy, ways to communicate, and memories. A young woman, a persistent ice-cream man, and a rescued foreign-speaking person from the air mattress are looking for a way to get through to each other. The film was co-founded by the Polish Film Institute. Krystyna Dobrzańska is also the author of the script. Cinematography by Julia Dziworska. Starring: Gosia Kleszcz, Zbyszek Mikołajek, Krystyna Dobrzańska, Kleo and Dori.

  • Szkuat11'

    “Szkuat” is a documentary film portraying a large family living in the countryside. Their big house is home for a mother with five children and a six-year-old grandson. After the death of her husband the woman wants to change her life and go to Spain, far away from her concerns and the never-ending work on the farm.

  • Wszystkie odegrane role14'

    “Wszystkie odegrane role” is a short experimental video, the result of cooperation between three friends, who became not only actors in the film but also – its protagonists. The script was created based on numerous group improvisations concerning the problems of the young generation, and the three friends gradually got to the point when it became difficult to separate the film set from reality. The plot begins when the protagonists are forces to move out, as for the past few months they were unable to find a job and, as a result, pay the rent. Michał Doroszenko is also the author of the script. Cinematography, lighting and colour correction by Konrad Wujciów, sound by Karolina Brzozowska. Cast: Klaudia Prabucka, Maria Plucińska and Michał Doroszenko.

    Born in 1997. He studies experimental film at the Academy of Art in Szczecin, and philosophy at the University of Warsaw. He creates music, poetry and films. His main fields of interest are speculative fiction, political philosophy and queer theory. He played concerts and participated in group exhibitions in such places as TRAFO (Szczecin), BWA Katowice, Tunghau University Art Gallery (Taichung, TW). He creates in Szczecin.

    A third-year student of experimental film art the Academy of Art in Szczecin. His main fields of research include immersive film, virtual reality and photo manipulation. In his works he experiments with the visual and narrative form, researching the possibilities and boundaries of various technologies.
